Family Legal Advice Service (FLAS)
We are approved Family Legal Advice Service (FLAS) providers.
FLAS covers initial advice and information for people in dispute over arrangements involving care of their children. In some cases, it also covers assistance with court entry forms or with a notice of response.
This funded service is available for people who meet the eligibility test. Eligible clients can only access this service free of charge once over a 12-month period.
Community Law Centres
If you do not meet the eligibility for FLAS, or you require different legal help, we suggest visiting your local Community Law Centre for initial free legal advice and referrals.
You can also browse easy-to-read legal information in the Community Law Manual.
Legal Aid
If you need to go to the Family Court and cannot afford a lawyer, you may be eligible for Legal Aid. If you are granted Legal Aid, the Ministry of Justice pays your legal fees directly to your lawyer. Depending on your financial situation, you may have to pay some or all of this back. Talk to us about making a Legal Aid application on your behalf.
We are also Legal Aid providers for criminal, parole, civil, and employment disputes and can apply on your behalf or advise you the best way to go about this.
If you are charged with a criminal or traffic offence, the Duty Lawyer will help you for free at your first appearance. They will also help you apply for Legal Aid if you are eligible.
